Is it time to change our logo?
Below is the original logo I was given to work with.
While awesome for the time it was created in, it is now, in my personal opinion looking a bit dated and in need of bringing into the digital era.
Issues
- Hand drawn
- Doesn’t scale well (not in Scalable Vector Graphics format)
- Visible Imperfections
- The five pointed star is actually not in the Japanese Judo tradition http://judoinfo.com/kdk.htm
- Difficult to customise or change
- We have an (old) board at the club showing at least four organizations using this flower logo. Using Google Image Search I could find none…….
- Organisations often change their logo to reflect changing fashions, design concepts and goals. We do not have to be tied to an old logo simply for histories sake.
Suggestion 1: Digitise the original logo, use minor changes to update the look and usability.
- Vibrant Colours
- Each piece of the logo can be edited separately
Suggestion 2:
As above but straighten the flower into a symmetrical shape, whilst still retaining the characteristics of the original logo, evolution, not revolution!
Suggestion 3:
Another evolution, using the South Australian State Judo colours as the star.
A further evolution, state colours, orange backround to represent the colour of Whyalla, and black to provide a bold striking border.
This is still a little bit rough, further work is needed to ensure everything is concentric and aligned.
State colours may need to be wider to show up well as a small logo.
Colour of font changed to be exactly the same as the inner colour.
Yet another colour scheme, still using Red, Blue & Yellow for the state colours, ignore the extra black line in the middle of the blue.
Keep in mind colours are never perfect, what looks good on screen may not look so good when turned into a badge.
Making the blue a bit bolder, still rough 🙂
Go with the first circle idea, the second with the black – the colours are a bit harsh on the eye.
Would have looked better though if the font used for “Club” was the same as the one used for “Whyalla Judo”
Yes, the change of font was a known issue in the first circle logo, these are still development ideas, with (much!) extra work needed to produce a perfect final result.
I have uploaded another circle logo to respond to comments that the yellow font may be a bit harsh.
Thanks for the feed back!
